Self Initiated Project - Ned Kelly Original Hipster

A personal design project using the image of legendary Australian bushranger Ned Kelly the Original Hipster.

This design takes its inspiration from both the Blaxploitation poster art of the 70’s, and the iconic image of Che Guevara from 1960. I illustrated the shadow areas and took the design into illustrator to be reworked, exaggerating the beard slightly and adding an ear ring tunnel. The final piece used a superfly afro pick style. Part of the ‘Beardy Man’ design collection.

The initial trace to create the line work before inking.
After finishing the inking I made a few adjustments to the shadow and highlight areas.
The reworked shading removed some of the blocky shadows that didn't make sense.
First redraw in Adobe Illustrator.
Added the afro pick, nearly there now! Just need to decide on colours…
The final colour choices for the T-shirt range.
